This week in English I, we are continuing to get comfortable with class routines such as our openings on Tuesday & Wednesday, a "What do you see? / What does it mean?" visual analysis of this iconic American portrait of Cinque, leader of the Amistad rebellion, which hangs in the New Haven Museum.
We are also continuing our study of poetry that addresses the idea of "Language Matters", examining a poem about being bilingual by Luis Alberto Ambroggio and on Thursday and Friday, Maya Angelou's "I Rise."
Perhaps most importantly this week, we are beginning to look more closely at what is expected of each of us so that we can all make strides as independent readers this year. Homework for all students this week is to complete this Independent Reading Survey, including the interview portion at the end, and to bring it to class on Thursday or Friday, depending on whether you have English on an A-Day or B-Day.
If you need another copy of the course outline, here is a link to it.
Have a great week everyone!
