Week of 09.01

Welcome Class of 2020!

This week we are introducing the main theme of our course, "Language Matters", reviewing the syllabus, and generally getting adjusted to life at Metro.

This is a link to our Daily Flow, or plan, for the first day of class.

Here is a link to the poem that we will watch by Dr. Jamila Lyiscott and the handout we will use to think about her message.

Finally, here is the link to our course syllabus. Use any of my contacts listed on the course syllabus if you need to reach out to me with questions about the course.

Homework for the first day of class is as follows:
- Bring in an Independent Reading Book for our second day of class. (If you don't have an independent reading book at home to bring, think about the kind of books that interest you so you can make a quick selection from the books that we will have available in class.)
- Think of a word that matters to you and be prepared to share that word and a brief explanation of why it matters with our class.
