For our first writing project this school-year, students in English I are writing mash-up poems. A mash-up typically consists of taking two distinct items and combining them into a new text. Mash-ups are common in music, but also are done with photographs and videos, among other mediums.
In English I, we are mashing-up a poem by Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes, titled "Theme for English B" with our own writing.
For students, below are links to the documents we are using in class, in case you wish to continue working on your mash-up over the long weekend.
